Today at kindergarten the local beekeeper came to demonstrate beekeeping procedure. M remembered everything he said––she has a photographic memory. A hunter of pollen, for flowering plants, long complex proboscis tongues allow them to get the nectar to take back to the hive, convert to honey, deposit in a comb. From Monday to Sunday––labouring attentively for the dense florid viscose liquid, for a bath of sticky sun, a lathe of resin crust. When the smokey draft comes they evacuate for another home. While M was at kinder I went for a walk with G in the national park––as we often do. On the way back G was very tired, so I tried to enticed him with the schoolyard filled with children playing – it only made him long to join them on the climbing frame. His sticky hand cupped in mine, pressed in, our fates connected on the palm as we crossed the road toward the kindergarten. That’s when I saw it, golden black orb working, a cherubim suckling; a bumblebee foraging nectar with wild dedication. Stuck its proboscis into the stamen, penetrating phallic back-end a throbbing thumb; blow-glower blowing, suck-absorber suckling nutrients. Its limbs stuck to the pollen, collected immense seed-like discharge, until all the bee was working. The bee’s concentration was absolute as lilac lace petals threw off pheromones––silent desiccated stink. I was hypnotised by its effort, every organ worked to lift off scent, get at unsweet burnt orange pithy stain seed to convert to honey. But G was not that interested, pulled my arm impatiently––ready to return to the hive.

Boundary Speak (Diaries 2013-2021) centrally focuses on reportage of my life’s happenings, notes on readings, phantasms or wild forays, riffs off music or footnotes from poems that take me on a strange journey, ruminations and thought fragments. My outsider artwork is focal on my Re-learn your Alphabet for the Twenty-First Century drawings (some of which are collaborations with my children), my robot series, as well as many other drawings undertaken over the period 2013-2021.
